Our limited radiological services aim to provide an easy access option for our patients. The main purpose is to provide a rapid diagnostic procedure within our practice. A consultant radiologist offers ultrasound clinics twice a week.
Ultrasound Scanning – The safety of ultrasound waves combined with the quality of the images obtained via a non-invasive technique, make ultrasound scanning an indispensable method of investigation for certain illnesses. Ultrasounds can be performed on any solid or fluid filled organ. This means that ultrasound scans of thyroid glands, lymph nodes, muscles, tendons, liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, prostate, bladder or undiagnosed lumps, are very helpful in an accurate diagnosis.
Doppler Ultrasound Scanning – A Doppler machine measures the flow of a fluid, its flow rate and its direction.
This permits an ultrasound to diagnose the presence of narrowed arteries and veins. Confirmation of a deep vein thrombosis is routinely performed using this method. Checking the carotid arteries has been established as a stroke prevention method as well as checking for aortic aneurysms or blood flow within the legs.
Bone Densitometry (DXA) – Measuring the density of bones using very small doses of X-radiation has become the gold standard for the diagnosis and follow up of conditions such as Osteoporosis and Osteopenia. We can routinely offer this service to patients within our practice.
