Alexandra Madureira – Psychologist

Alexandra Madureira is a British and Portuguese-trained Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of professional experience in mental health care. She brings extensive expertise in addiction treatment, trauma therapy, and complex psychiatric presentations, combining evidence-based methods with a compassionate and structured approach.

She obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology in 2004 and is a member of the British Psychological Society (MBPS), the Colegio de Psicólogos in Spain, and the Ordem dos Psicólogos in Portugal. Her postgraduate training includes Neurofeedback and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), strengthening her capacity to work with trauma, emotional dysregulation, and neurobiological aspects of psychological disorders.

Work life

Alexandra began her career in the United Kingdom, working for over a decade at PROMIS Clinic, a well-established centre for addiction rehabilitation. During this time, she played a key role in developing and managing treatment programmes and contributed to the expansion of services into Marbella, Madrid, and Portugal. In 2010, she founded NeuroBonding in Portugal, introducing neurofeedback therapy within a structured clinical framework.

In 2014, she was appointed Head Psychologist at Cortijo Care, a psychiatric hospital in Marbella, where she developed and implemented comprehensive therapeutic programmes in collaboration with psychiatrists and multidisciplinary teams. Her work has included the treatment of addiction, personality disorders (including borderline personality disorder), trauma and complex trauma, anxiety and depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD/ADD, eating disorders, grief, and low self-esteem.

Alexandra integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), developmental psychology, neurobiological approaches, EMDR, and neurofeedback. Her therapeutic style is often described as empathetic, grounded, and deeply attentive. She focuses on creating a safe therapeutic environment while providing structured and goal-oriented interventions tailored to each individual.

Fluent in English and Portuguese, Alexandra works with an international client base, offering culturally sensitive and evidence-based psychological care.
